Domestic Violence Film Wins Top Award At Beaufort Film Festival

Dan was delighted to be invited to the 16th Annual Beaufort International Film Festival this week where he had the pleasure of screening his latest short film All That Glitters and taking a Q&A with the audience at the University of South Carolina Beaufort Center for the Arts in Beaufort, South Carolina.

The ambitious self-funded drama fantasy stars Sophia Myles and Alec Newman and tells the story of a desperate teenager who snatches a rich woman’s handbag, but in a bizarre twist of fate discovers that her life is not as rosy as it seems and that they have more in common than he realizes.

“The film tackles the issue of domestic violence which is something close to my heart and something that became even more prevalent during the pandemic lockdowns across the world,” Dan said. “Though the subject matter is dark, I wanted to inject an element of fantasy into the narrative to engage the viewer and some light moments and ultimately give the audience hope by the end of the film rather than leaving on a bleak note.”

The 24 min ambitious short film scooped top honours on the closing night winning “Best Narrative Short Film”. The short is the first production for Dan’s new Essex-based production company Buckle Up Entertainment which aims to develop a slate of commercial elevated genre film and television series for the global market.

The Beaufort Film Society draws six days of film screenings included 15 World Premieres and 44 films. “I say it every year – this is the best BIFF yet,” said festival co-director Ron Tucker. “I say it every year. I mean it every year.” The Beaufort Film Society is dedicated to providing the highest levels of entertainment and education to the public from all areas of the film industry.
